When we are planning to lose weight or just eat healthy, the one advice we often get to hear is to eat five small meals instead of three big meals. In addition to planning healthy breakfast, lunch and dinners, there are two other meals we need to fix- mid morning and evening. Usually the gap between breakfast and lunch is not as big as compared to the gap between lunch and dinner. So a mid-morning meal can be as simple as munching on a seasonal fruit or sipping a glass of lemon honey water or buttermilk. However the evening meal or snack has to be filling and should last you till dinner time. Because this is the time we generally feel hungry and tired and there is the urge to reach out for some delicious baked or fried snacks.
The word ‘salad’ doesn’t actually appeal at these times unless it is a Russian or Waldorf. Aren’t salads meant to be healthy! I often wonder what purpose they serve when they are tossed in rich dressings. When the goal is to shed some pounds I guess we need to fix up something balanced and nutritive. A good salad has to be wholesome, tasty and easy to fix. Otherwise there is no reason why we will do that again the next day.Fruit & Nut salad is a delicious, crunchy and nutritious option. It has a simple lemon dressing and is a combination of different fruits, vegetables and nuts. The different textures and bright colors are visually appealing and delightful. So go ahead and toss up this refreshingly appetizing salad and satisfy your hunger pangs.
